Lego NXT Remote
Own a Lego NXT Kit and have a robot you want to remote control? Tired of the simple controller included with the nxt 2.0 software? Meet Lego NXT Remote. With no firmware changes needed, you can now remote control your Lego Robot as easily as click.
Requirements: Mac computer with bluetooth support. Mac os x 10.4 or later.
This software works on Snow Leapord and Lepord.
Unfortunately due to limitations by Apple, we are unable to produce a version of Lego NXT Remote that works on Tiger.

Features
Lego NXT Remote boasts a great interface and control for every feature the NXT can possibly have.
Advanced Sensor Control

Advanced Sensor customization and control (with customizable voice commands) allows you to customize the control to your needs. And with automatic preference saving, it’ll be just the way you want it the next time you open the app.
Automatic Steering and Programs

With keyboard controls you can quickly become accustomed to driving your robot around. The computer will automatically move the servos for you, even for turns!
Manual Super Responsive Servo Control
With continuous manual servo control, you can easily control simple servo motor movements remotely. Just drag the sliders and the robot will instantly respond.
Tachometer and Tone Control

Tachometer allows you to monitor the exact degrees value of the rotation sensors in the NXT motors. You can also control tones by choosing a tone with the slider and then the length, and pressing play!

Works flawlessly on Snow Leopard. I am only saddened that the fairly friendly “Forklift” and “Claw” settings have been replaced by Set. 1 and Set. 2. And there is still no program listing, something I crave.

Hey Anonymous!
Thanks
for commenting!
The main reason why I removed the “Forklift” and “Claw” specific controls is
because I want to encourage people to use the Attachment Settings window to
set up the program for ANY attachment possible – not just limited to claw
and forklift.
I am currently implementing a program listing. You will then instead of
entering the program name instead double click the program you want to run.
Thanks for your feedback! I love new ideas.

Since you have already developed this in objective-C (presumably) then will it be easy to port to the iPod Touch.
I don’t have Mac, but do have iPod touch and just got a NXT 2.0 recently.
Would be cool to run it on there and control over Bluetooth. Do you know of any such thing being available already ?
I develop on WinCE extensively, but have not done any Objective-C as yet.
I also plan (one day) to put Lejos on the NXT.

@JohnP – why yes, there is already an app for the iPhone and iPod but it requires you have a mac to use it
. It uses the computer as a relay to the robot. I have no plans at the moment to port over a direct bluetooth version – though I do think I might in the future.

Hello!
First: I’m a twelve year old child from Germany, so please excuse my bad english. I have the same problem like Niels. I enter the Icon “LegoNXTRemote” and nothing happens!
I’ve got a Mac with a 1,67 GHz PowerPc G4 and
1,5 GB DDR2 SDRAM (The Infos are from the “Über diesen Mac” Window).

Hey commenters,
The problem of the software not opening on Tiger has been looked in to… And unfortuately we are unable to produce a version of the software that works with tiger. I really recommend getting Leapord as Tiger is really really really out of date.
Thank you for your support of Lego NXT Remote.

Have you considered releasing the source code for this?

Yes, I have, but I can’t at the moment because I’m working on it so hard. I’m not sure if I will or not. Stay tuned!

I noticed an icon with a Macbook, an NXT, and a wireless Gamecube controller. Is there a way to control the robot with the Gamecube controller?
